In the heart of the ancient city of Matera, Moyseion offers a unique concept that merges the idea of a non-traditional hotel with that of a living museum.
Through experimental archaeology techniques, we offer our guests an immersive journey into the distant past of Matera, spanning from the Late Neolithic period to Magna Graecia (6th millennium BC – 3rd century BC).
The property features 16 rooms, each carefully designed to reflect a specific historical period: 3 rooms in Neolithic style, 5 in Enotrian style, and 8 inspired by Magna Graecia. Each room displays reproduced pottery that underlines its historical theme.
Situated in the iconic Sassi of Matera, our guests are not only immersed in an ancient world but also have the rare opportunity to stay in the limestone caves, all while enjoying stunning views of the city.
While the atmosphere embraces history, modern amenities such as air conditioning and contemporary bathroom facilities ensure comfort throughout your stay.

The reservation includes the participation to 4 rituals:
– Hospitality ritual when You will arrive (Xenia);
– Water Sanctuary ritual
– Symposium ritual;
– Morning meal ritual.

Participation in rituals is not mandatory. In the common areas, however, it is essential to wear the historical costume, which will be handed out upon arrival.
